Recipe: Ceremonial Cacao

INGREDIENTS:

1.5-2 oz. 100% cacao paste in bar or chips, not powder. Unsweetened baking chocolate works as long as it is 100% cacao, but ceremonial grade cacao is also readily available online.

Dash of chili powder. Choose high quality chili with medium heat. Chili is crucial to unlock the magic.

Honey or preferred sweetener to taste 12-16oz water (for vegan version) or milk

Optional: Cardamon, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice

PROCESS:

Weigh the cacao and add to your hot chocolate mug. Add chili, honey and optional spices. Add near boiling hot water or milk and stir or blend until the cacao is melted and emulsified. In Mexico, a Molinillo is used to blend the cacao, but you can use a whisk/frother or make in a jar with a well-fitted lid and shake until the chocolate is dissolved. For over 3000 years, cacao has been sacred to Mesoamericans. Before sipping hold the cacao to your heart. With a few breaths, imagine your prayers and wishes flowing into the cacao. As you sip, feel your heart fill, your energy rise and your dreams coming true.
